Fall book sale
The Friends of the Sewickley Public Library host the annual Fall Book Sale Sept. 9-11. Shop gently used books, children’s books, movies, music & more.
The sale hours are 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sept. 9, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 and 1-3:30 p.m. Sept. 11. On Sunday, the Friends offer Bag Day, where shoppers may fill provided bags with any combination of books, DVDs or CDs for $5. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

Oasis Teen Center
All students in grades 5-9 can join the free after school program, the OASIS at the Sewickley Valley YMCA. Teen can hang out at the Y with their friends Monday through Thursday from 3-6 p.m. Kids can shoot hoops in the large gym, play games, make crafts and more. Clothesline Sale
Sewickley Academy’s Home & School Association is hosting the annual Clothesline Sale for the community Sept. 23-27. Gently used clothing for all ages, as well as books and sporting goods, will be available for purchase in the Academy’s Snyder Gym. Proceeds benefit the many student activities sponsored by the Home & School Association throughout the school year. Each day of the sale begins at 10 a.m., closing at 7 p.m. on Sept. 23 and 26, and at 5 p.m. Sept. 24, 25 and 27. On Sept. 26, all remaining items will be sold at half price, and Sept. 27 is “Bag Day” during which shoppers pay a total of $25 for anything they can fit in a provided bag. Donations toward the sale are being received through Sept. 10. Items may be dropped off in the carts located outside of the Academy’s Rea Auditorium.
Girl Scouts Recruitment Night
Find out about Girl Scouting and how you can get involved when Sewickley-area volunteers present information about Glen Oaks Girl Scouts and answer questions about how to register your K-12 daughter, become a volunteer or both. The event will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Club Thaw outdoor pavilion, 174 Camp Meeting Road Ext. Girls are welcome but not required to attend the free event. Council meeting
Sewickley council will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the borough building, 601 Thorn St. Among the items to be voted on include a request by Divine Redeemer Parish to demolish the Herbst House.
Senior Men’s Club
An affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, the Senior Men’s Club speaker on Sept. 16 will be Dan Telep discussing the refederalization of the U.S. Post Office after the Civil War. Business Connection
The Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection, a referral group of business professionals, will meet Sept. 14 at the Eat’n Park on Route 60 in Robinson Township for breakfast from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. Speakers will be Suzette McCarrell of McCarrell Landscape Construction and Stephanie Milazzo of Mary Kay Cosmetics. Ole 5K
TASH’s 14th Annual Ole 5K will take place at 10 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Harmar Grove Pavilion in North Park.
TASH is a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit that has worked in Oaxaca, Mexico, since 1998. It aims to bridge the community of Pittsburgh with the people in Mexico. Pete Noll, a 1992 graduate of Quaker Valley High School, has lived in Oaxaca for the past 20 years, but comes back several times a year. Together with his team, they are organizing the 14th annual Olé 5k Benefit race to support The Anna Seethaler Hospital and other local nonprofits.
At the conclusion of the Olé 5K Benefit race, there will be a Mexican buffet, Oaxaca-grown organic coffee, smoothies, 50/50 raffle, music, and an awards ceremony.
