Girl Scouts Recruitment Night

Find out about Girl Scouting and how you can get involved when Sewickley-area volunteers present information about Glen Oaks Girl Scouts and answer questions about how to register your K-12 daughter, become a volunteer or both. The event will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Club Thaw outdoor pavilion, 174 Camp Meeting Road Ext. Girls are welcome but not required to attend the free event. Council meeting

Sewickley council will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the borough building, 601 Thorn St. Among the items to be voted on include a request by Divine Redeemer Parish to demolish the Herbst House.

YMCA

The Sewickley Valley YMCA will operate on recreational hours on Sept. 5, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The Kid Zone will be closed and the large pool will be open for adult lap swim. All programs will resume on Sept. 6, thouth the large gym will be closed for a deep clean on Sept. 6-7, and the CV gym will be closed on Sept. 8-9. For more information, visit sewickleyymca.y.org.

Wiffleball Tournament

The Sixth Annual Owen Galluzzo Memorial Picnic and Wiffleball Tournament will be held Sept. 5 at War Memorial Park from noon-5 p.m. The event is a day full of family fun, including bounce houses, face painting, hot dogs and ice cream, bead stringing, a basket raffle (more than 100 baskets), a home-run derby and a wiffleball tournament. All proceeds go to the Owen Galluzzo Memorial Fund, which was established in 2014 after Owen died at the age of 9 following open heart surgery. The fund is managed through The Pittsburgh Foundation and its mission is to support non-profit organizations that enrich the lives of medically fragile children like Owen.

Senior Men’s Club

An affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, the Senior Men’s Club speaker on Sept. 9 will be Phillip Atterberry of the University of Pittsburgh talking about the music of World War II. Upcoming speakers include Dan Telep on Sept. 16, discussing the refederalization of the U.S. Post Office after the Civil War; and Jeremy Shaffer, Republican candidate for U.S. Congress on Sept. 23. Commission to meet

Sewickley Historic Review Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the borough building.

Business Connection

The Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection, a referral group of business professionals, will meet Sept. 7 at the Eat’n Park on Route 60 in Robinson Township for breakfast from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. Speakers will be Brian Thomas of BT Computer Consulting Services and Michele Long of Keller Williams Realty.
