The world premiere of “Hireath” will take place on May 25 at The Tull Family Theater in Sewickley.

Free screening at Tull

A trio of independent filmmakers will present the free world premiere of their first cooperative feature, a thriller/drama, at The Tull Family Theater at 7 p.m. May 25.

The film “Hiraeth” (HEE-writhe), using the Welsh word for homesickness and nostalgia for its title, delivers its message about mental health with heart and bold storytelling elements. Made in Pittsburgh with all-Pittsburgh talent, “Hiraeth” explores the impacts of a mother’s abuse on her son’s mental health. The son believes he has witnessed a murder but based on his mental state, doubts the trustworthiness of memories. May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Tickets are available online at thetullfamilytheater.org and at the door. Because the film is not rated, viewer discretion is advised.

This screening is one of the ways The Tull Family Theater supports emerging filmmakers and expands the cultural vibrancy of the region.

Military banner program change

Sewickley resident John Dunn announced he is no longer taking care of the borough’s military banner program. He said he could no longer properly maintain the nearly 170 banners after three years of volunteering. Families of veterans would purchase banners honoring current service men and women, or recognizing those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Dunn would then install them on poles throughout the borough.

He thanked council for the opportunity to help Sewickley continue the program, and gave council a large binder of banner-related information the May 10 meeting. Council president Cynthia Mullins said the work will be handled by borough staff.
