SPOT screenings

Laughlin Children’s Center, in collaboration with the Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation and the Mary Hillman Jennings Foundation, will provide SPOT (Speech, Physical, Occupational, and Therapeutic) screenings at a significant discount to children who may benefit from speech or occupational therapy beginning in September.

Laughlin Children’s Center partners with local preschools and childcare centers to offer essential regional screenings. Licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and occupational therapists (OTs) will visit preschool classrooms across the surrounding communities to identify speech/language, hearing, fine/gross motor, or sensory difficulties in children. These screenings are a snapshot of a child’s abilities, allowing Laughlin Children’s Center to check for typical development and highlight potential challenges.

A developmental screening is not a diagnosis but rather an opportunity to assess a child’s abilities. If a child demonstrates difficulties during the screening, they may be recommended for a comprehensive evaluation.

Some discounted price screenings are also available at the Laughlin’s Children’s Center at 424 Frederick Ave., Sewickley. Center screenings must be scheduled by emailing info@laughlincenter.org or calling 412-741-4087.
