Child Health Association hosting virtual fundraiser

The Child Health Association of Sewickley has been dedicated to caring for children in our area for the past century. The all-volunteer organization typically produces a biennial play in conjunction with a black-tie optional gala to raise money in support of children’s causes in Western Pennsylvania. Because of the pandemic, a virtual wine tasting and skit will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 27.

The virtual wine tasting will be led by Claire Ducrocq Weinkauf, winemaker and owner of Calistoga, Calif.-based Picayune Cellars. Picayune has been featured as a “Best Wine Destination” in Wine Enthusiast Magazine, with many wines, including those that are part of the tasting, having been honored with a 90-point score in the magazine. The skit to accompany the wine tasting will have a distinctly Sewickley take on the experience of lockdown during the pandemic.

Child Health’s mission is to nurture the whole child by supporting, through charitable giving and volunteer service, programs and services that address children’s emotional, physical, educational, cultural and recreational needs.

Free tax prep

United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Free Tax Prep program is offering free virtual or hybrid tax preparation through April 10 for individuals across the region. With these new virtual services, clients can upload their materials, and tax experts will prepare and review the return. The hybrid tax preparation entails two brief appointments in a safe environment, following CDC guidelines, to provide information and review the return. These services are available to residents in Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties, and the program ensures low-income residents can maximize their refund and lessen the financial burdens from the pandemic.

Assistance from a volunteer tax preparer is available for individuals and families with a total annual income of up to $57,000. Additionally, free, do-it-yourself online tax assistance is available at myfreetaxes.com for all individuals and families. Visit pa211sw.org for more information.
