Author talk

The Sewickley Public Library invites guests to take a cruise along the Great Allegheny Passage Trail with author Bill Metzger during his book talk at 7 p.m. June 28 at the library.

Metzger is the author of “The Great Allegheny Passage Companion,” a rail-trail guidebook that covers the 150-mile biking and hiking trail from Cumberland, Md., to Point State Park. Metzger will detail the history and heritage of the trail, discussing how the people of Southwestern Pennsylvania lived in days gone by and how they made the Passage the wonderful experience it is today.

Old Economy Village concert series

The Beaver County Symphonic Wind Ensemble will kick off Old Economy Village’s summer concert series on June 19 from 2-4 p.m. All concerts are free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Most of the concerts will take place in the garden, and concerts will be held rain or shine. Glass recycling

Quaker Valley Council of Governments has established another glass recycling location, at 629 New Brighton Road in Avalon across from its public works facility. The dumpster hauling and glass recycling service will be provided by Michael Brothers Hauling & CAP Glass. It is available from dawn to dusk each day and is open to all Quaker Valley COG communities. Glass containers must be rinsed of any perishable debris prior to being recycled. Adhesive labels and container lids do not need to be removed prior to being recycled. Items such as mirrors, porcelain dishware and light bulbs will not be accepted. More information is available by calling 412-766-7458.

Juneteenth Art & Music Festival

The Sewickley Community Center will host a Juneteenth Art & Music Festival on June 18 from noon-6 p.m. It is free and open to the public. There will be live music featuring The Flow Band, Ibeji Drum Ensemble and more, as well as children’s activities, vendors, a raffle, tours of the center, swimming ($2) and more. Sewickley Presbyterian Church

The first Day on the Lawn drop-off will be 9 a.m.-noon June 19. Day on the Lawn is a massive rummage sale held every year in September. To donate merchandise, please visit sewickleypresby.org for a complete list of acceptable donations and additional drop-off dates.

Senior Men’s Club

An affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, the Senior Men’s Club will host Sgt. Glenn Young of Sgt. Young’s Safety ProgramMission Aviation Fellowship’s Peter Santana on June 10 at the YMCA. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for an informal social gathering followed by the presentation at 10. The Federal Bureau of Investigation will discuss senior fraud and scams on June 17. The Mars Rovers Barbershop Quartet will be there on June 24.

Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection

The Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection, a referral group of business professionals, will meet June 22 at the Eat’n Park on Route 60 in Robinson Township for breakfast from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Speakers will be Brian Koeberle, esquire, and Bill Paviol of ADT Security Systems.
