A Bell Acres councilman accused of driving his car through crowds protesting the death of Antwon Rose II must complete 25 hours of community service and a year of probation.

The trial scheduled for Thursday for Gregory Wagner, 59, was canceled in light of a deal earlier struck this month.

Wagner was admitted to the Allegheny County Common Pleas Court’s Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program on Aug. 16. If Wagner completes all the conditions of the ARD program, all charges against him will be dismissed and his record will be expunged.

“In reviewing the facts of the case, we made the decision that the case could be handled through the ARD process,” said Mike Manko, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

Wagner’s attorney declined to comment.

Wagner was to stand trial on two counts of reckless driving, one count of careless driving and one count of driving the wrong way. All of the charges are misdemeanors. The careless driving and driving the wrong way charges were dismissed at the initial ARD hearing this month. The counts of reckless driving will be dismissed if Wagner completes the ARD program.

Police said Wagner on June 22, 2018, drove his black Mercedes-Benz through a group of protesters who had shut down streets around PNC Park to protest the shooting.

Rose, 17, was shot and killed by now-former East Pittsburgh police Officer Michael Rosfeld as the teenager ran from a traffic stop. A jury acquitted Rosfeld of homicide charges in March.
