Allegheny County Police recovered this gun after it was discovered at a Pittsburgh International Airport security checkpoint.

Allegheny County Police charged a Renfrew man with firearms violations for allegedly bringing a gun to Pittsburgh International Airport.

TSA officers observed a handgun within a passenger’s backpack at the main security checkpoint of the airport around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the police report.

Police identified the passenger as Scott Playford, 45, a Canadian citizen living in Pennsylvania.

Police said he does not have a concealed carry permit. He has been charged with a misdemeanor of carrying a firearm without a license.

County Police seized the firearm, and the FBI was notified.

Passengers who bring firearms into an airport security checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
