Where to watch fireworks this weekend in Western Pennsylvania

Though many Fourth of July celebrations were nixed last year, fireworks are back throughout Western Pennsylvania this weekend.

Here are some spots to watch the fireworks and enjoy other celebrations during the holiday weekend:

Pittsburgh

The City of Pittsburgh is hosting a Fourth of July celebration on Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m. at Point State Park. The celebration includes patriotic music and food vendors, followed by fireworks presented by Pyrotecnico, beginning at twilight (around 9:45 p.m.). The event will be broadcast on WPXI-TV.

“It’s time to get together and celebrate our life and independence — together,” Mayor Bill Peduto said. “After a year of suffering, there is no better way to do that than joining our neighbors for the most Pittsburgh of all things, which of course is a giant fireworks display.”

Allegheny County

• Avalon: The 2021 North Boroughs Community Day on Saturday will feature live music, food and raffle drawings from 6 p.m. till dusk at Avalon Community Park. The festivities will conclude with fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Brentwood will host a parade on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. and a fireworks display at Brentwood Park at 9:30 p.m.

• Carnegie: On Saturday, festivities — like concession stands, food trucks and live music — will begin at Carnegie Park at 2 p.m. The day will conclude with fireworks.

• Crafton: Events at Crafton Park on Sunday begin with the Thomas J. Witt Memorial Fire Cracker 5K Fun Run starting at 8 a.m. In the evening, a fire truck parade with Crafton Volunteer Fire Department will start at 6, followed by a band at 7:30 and fireworks around 9:30 p.m.

• Dormont: A Dormont Day celebration is slated for Sunday. The “largest fireworks display in Dormont’s history” will celebrate Independence Day — as well as the pool’s 100th anniversary. The pool will be open from 1 p.m. till 6 p.m. and the community is invited to celebrate with food and fireworks at the pool parking lot and hillside from 7:30 till 9:30 p.m.

• Findlay: Findlay Township’s Independence Day Celebration — which features entertainment like a DJ, balloon artist and free giveaways — will end with fireworks by Pyrotechnico around 9:45 on Saturday at the Recreation and Sports Complex on Route 30.

• Leetsdale: Though the parade and carnival were cancelled, a fireworks display will be held on Sunday at dusk.

• McKeesport: The Summer Concert Series will open at 7 p.m. on Sunday, featuring the Vogues. The show will be followed by fireworks around 9:45 p.m. at 3625 Jimmy Beaumont Boulevard.

• Monroeville: There will be a fireworks display at the Monroeville Mall Annex around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

• Moon: Moon Township will host a 4th of July Celebration on Sunday at Moon Park. The event begins with food vendors and family activities at 4 p.m. and will include performances, a flag ceremony and fireworks slated for 10 p.m.

• Mt. Lebanon: On Sunday, fireworks at 9:30 p.m. will follow a free concert at 7:30. Both will be hosted at Mt. Lebanon Main Park, with a rain date of July 5.

• Scott: The township is hosting fireworks at Scott Park around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

• Shaler: Shaler’s Community Day on Sunday at Kiwanis Park will feature a band at 7 p.m., a military recognition ceremony at 8 and fireworks at dusk. Monday will serve as the rain date.

• South Fayette & Upper St. Clair: South Fayette and Upper St. Clair are teaming up for a fireworks display on Sunday. The fireworks will be launched from Fairview Park and should be visible at several locations throughout the communities, including from Boyce Mayview Park.

Alle-Kiski Valley

• Saxonburg: The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company is teaming up with New Life Christian Ministries to set off fireworks around dusk on Saturday at the Carnival Ground.

• Tarentum: Summit Hose Volunteer Fire Company is holding a fireworks display on Saturday at at Dreshar Stadium starting at 10 p.m.

Westmoreland County and others

• Champion: Seven Springs Mountain Resort is hosting a three-day weekend celebration. A fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday will cost $20 per car.

• Connellsville: Fireworks will be launched at 9:45 on Arch Street as part of the Dave Reed Rockin’ Rib Fest from 4 till 11 p.m. on Saturday.

• Farmington: At Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, fireworks will be launched at the airstrip behind The Chateau and The Peak parking area at 9:30 p.m., with the Sunset Terrace show at 9:45 p.m. on Sunday. It’s part of the resort’s Party in the USA celebration with a concert by Train.

• Hempfield: The Revolutionary War settlement and first county seat, Hanna’s Town, is hosting a free Independence Day celebration on Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m. Members of Proctor’s Militia will present living history displays and the Declaration of Independence will be read at 2 p.m. Visitors can also explore a new exhibit called “Penn’s Woods: Plenty for the Use of Man,” which highlights the local and regional history of woodworking and carpentry, featuring historic woodworking tools, furnishings, photographs, documents and stories across centuries.

• Latrobe: A day of activities in the city on Saturday will conclude with fireworks at the Memorial Stadium Parking lot at 131 Irving Avenue at 9:45 p.m.

• Latrobe to Mt. Pleasant Township: The Westmoreland County Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. of PA will hold its second annual Patriot Thunder ride on Saturday. The ride will begin at 11 a.m. at Latrobe Elementary School and end around 2 p.m. at Mammoth Park in Mt. Pleasant Township. The cost for the ride is $10, with proceeds benefiting the Officer Dale T. Provins Jr. Memorial Scholarship at California University of Pennsylvania. Food, music and raffles follow the ride.

• Ligonier Township: Idlewild and SoakZone is hosting a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

• Mt. Pleasant: The Party in the Park event will include fireworks at Mt. Pleasant Gazebo, Washington and South Diamond Streets at dusk on Saturday.

• Mt. Pleasant: The first Mike Reese Memorial 5K Roast, Run & Family Fun Event will be hosted at Mammoth Park on Sunday. In honor of the late lawmaker, friends wanted to “help start the foundation (that Reese’s wife Angela) wants to create in his memory, as well as do something for families,” said Dawn Keefer, whose husband, David, was Reese’s frequent running partner. The 5K run will start at 10 a.m. and will be followed by an 11:30 a.m. pig roast and an afternoon of raffles, games and more.
