West Mifflin woman killed in Fayette County crash
A West Mifflin woman was killed Friday in a one-vehicle crash in Fayette County, according to state police and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Hope Marie Derry, 29, was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed on Route 51 in Perry Township at about 9:45 a.m., troopers said. Police said the vehicle left the highway, hit a tree and rolled onto its roof.
Both Derry and the driver, James Earl Davis, 37, were flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, police said. Troopers did not provide a hometown for Davis in a news release.
Derry was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:05 p.m., according to the medical examiner.
It was unclear in which direction the pair were traveling. Police did not say in a news release what caused the crash.
The northbound lanes were closed for a time while emergency responders worked at the scene just north of Perryopolis and not far from the Westmoreland County border.
