A man who stole an Ambridge police vehicle and led officers on a chase before eluding capture for hours was taken into custody Tuesday, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

Shawnquez Redd was charged just before 8 p.m. after abandoning the police car in Independence Township and hiding out in a residential neighborhood.

The incident began as a crash in the Aliquippa area. Redd was handcuffed but still able to steal a police cruiser, according to the report. He ditched the car and hid out in a backyard before neighbors called police to report the sighting.
