Sheetz announced it will sell many grades of gasoline at $1.776 per gallon on Tuesday, July 4, as part of a promotion for Independence Day.

Anyone who knows what year the Declaration of Independence was signed also will know the price of gasoline at Sheetz on Tuesday.

The Altoona-based convenience store chain announced Monday that it will reduce its gas prices to $1.776 per gallon to celebrate Independence Day.

The promotion will start at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and last all day, or while promotional gallons last, the company said.

The discounted price will apply to regular, E85 flex fuel, ethanol-free (E0), unleaded 88, mid-grade and premium fuel grades at all of Sheetz’s more than 675 locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

It will not apply to any diesel.

The special price is less than half of the statewide average for regular unleaded, which AAA reported at $3.64 per gallon Monday. Compared to the statewide average for premium, which AAA had at $4.27, it’s about 58% less.

“Sheetz is a family-owned and -operated company, and we are always looking for ways to assist the communities and customers that we serve,” Sheetz President and CEO Travis Sheetz said. “We hope this discount helps our customers keep a little more change in their wallets as they travel to celebrate the Fourth of July with friends and family, with an obvious nod to our nation’s birthday.”

Sheetz was established in Altoona in 1952 and has more than 24,000 employees.
