See those cheaper gas prices at GetGo? Here's how to get that discount

The prices look good, but read the fine print.

GetGo rolled out a new program — AdvantagePay — that offers discounts of between 5 and 30 cents per gallon of gas and can be combined with Giant Eagle’s other benefit program, Fuelperks+.

So if you’ve seen significantly cheaper prices on GetGo signs since the program was rolled out last week, know that those come with a catch: The price is good only for customers enrolled in AdvantagePay, which requires linking your checking account to your Giant Eagle Advantage Card as your form of payment.

Customers paying in that way will enter a private PIN after they scan their Advantage Card at the pump.

At the GetGo on Tarentum Bridge Road in New Kensington, the AdvantagePay price was $2.62 on Tuesday morning. Anyone paying in another fashion would pay $2.77 per gallon for regular.

Leery of connecting your account to your card? Spokesman Dan Donovan told Cleveland.com the program “actually protects against what might be the most common type of fraud.” He said that because the Advantage Card is scanned and not inserted, customers are protected from potential thieves who would attempt to use card skimmers.

The AdvantagePay program is managed by ZipLine, a debit processing company that works with payment and loyalty programs.

“In any potential instance of fraudulent activity … GetGo and ZipLine will make every effort to make the customer whole in a timely fashion,” Donovan told Cleveland.com.

If using the program, be sure there is enough money in your checking account. A transaction can bounce for lack of funds, resulting in up to $60 in fees.

Using AdvantagePay won’t hurt your ability to rack up Fuelperks+ rewards. Users will still earn two perks per gallon at the pump, which can be applied for future savings on GetGo gas or purchases at Giant Eagle.
