Searchers at McConnells Mill State Park were searching Saturday for a man who fell from a hiking path into Slippery Rock Creek.

A search is resuming Sunday morning for a man who fell from a hiking path in McConnells Mill State Park into Slippery Rock Creek on Saturday, a state park official.

Park ranger Supervisor Bryan Moore said early Sunday morning that emergency personnel gathered at the park to resume the search for a 38-year-old man fell from a rocky hiking path into the creek about 100 yards downstream of a covered bridge. Moore did not release the man’s name or hometown.

The Butler County Water Rescue team assisted with the search on Saturday, which was called off last night because of darkness, Moore said. A spokesman for the water rescue team could not be reached for comment Sunday morning.

State police led the search crews, who were assisted from the air by a StatMedivac helicopter and one helicopter of their own.

Calls first came in regarding the incident at the Lawrence County state park about 2:30 p.m., and rescue crews responded about 2:45.

About 5 p.m., searchers and emergency equipment were positioned on the Eckert bridge that spans the creek. Other crews were stationed along Slippery Rock Gorge Trail next to the creek.About 50 volunteers from eight fire departments participated.

Moore, who supervises rangers at McConnells Mill and nearby Moraine State Park in Butler County, said both parks were busy Saturday.
