Schools call delays, go remote as snow slickens roads
Schools across the Pittsburgh area were issuing two-hour delays or moving to remote instruction for Friday because of snow that moved in overnight and was slickening roads for the morning commute.
A complete list of delays is available from Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.
The snow began overnight ahead of a cold front, National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Modzelewski said. Between 1 and 2 inches is expected across the area by the time it ends around mid-afternoon.
The snow is light but enough to cause some travel problems on secondary and untreated roads, Modzelewski said. The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for several counties in southwestern Pennsylvania urging drivers to use caution if traveling Friday morning.
Snow continues across much of the area for the morning commute. Up to an inch of additional accumulation is expected through mid morning. Untreated roads will be snow covered and slippery. Use caution if traveling this morning. pic.twitter.com/Db98CZrLY0

The temperature is expected to remain steady through the day, with a forecast high of 27 before falling to between 0 and 5 degrees.
It’s expected to be even colder Saturday night, with a low between 0 and minus 5, Modzelewski said.
The Pittsburgh area will get a chance to thaw out a little toward Tuesday, when the highs are expected to get into the 40s until colder air returns next Friday, he said.
