Romanian pleads guilty in Washington County ATM skimming scheme
A Romanian pleaded guilty in federal court to charges related to him and others installing skimming devices on ATM machines in Washington County.
Elvis E. Roman withdrew his November not guilty plea to conspiracy and bank fraud and entered into a plea agreement with federal prosecutors, according to court documents.
Roman and the scheme’s other participants installed skimming devices on ATMs to obtain the account information associated with cards inserted into the targeted machines. Using that account information, participants cloned ATM cards and fraudulently withdrew funds from machines maintained by banks in Washington County.
The losses totaled between $95,000 and $150,000, court documents state.
Roman is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 3.
