Robot season gets underway at Cal U
There is a fall sports season, a winter sports season and a spring sports season at most colleges.
At California University of Pennsylvania, there’s a fourth sports season: robot season.
The state university in Washington County, which broke ground more than a decade ago when it began hosting high school robotics competitions, will begin hosting thousands of high school roboticists later this month. The competitions are free and open to the public.
- March 19-21 Cal U will host the FIRST Robotics, Greater Pittsburgh Regional competition, featuring more than 1,000 students putting their 120-pound custom designed robots through their paces.
- April 24-25 the university will host the BotsIQ, Southwestern Pennsylvania Finals. Teams from nearly 80 regional schools and community organizations will bring their robots to battle for dominance in gladiator-style matches.
- May 15-16 Cal U will host the National Robotics League, featuring more than 60 high school teams from across the country, including some southwestern Pennsylvania BotsIQ competitors, who will send their robots into battle.
