Police: Pittsburgh teen dies in Mercer County rollover crash after pickup hits wrecked vehicle

A woman who was a passenger in a vehicle that rolled over after the driver lost control along Interstate 79 in Mercer County on Friday died when another car crashed into the wreck.

Danielle J. Duncan, 19, of Pittsburgh was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash near mile marker 129 in New Vernon Township, according to state police, who said the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m.

Investigators said Duncan was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Toyota minivan in which Duncan was a passenger was transported by ambulance to AHN Grove City Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, state police said.

He was identified as Matteo A. Guajardo, 18, of Pittsburgh. He was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Duncan and Guajardo were both alumni of Mt. Lebanon schools, according to a post on the district’s Facebook page.

The 51-year-old driver of a Ford F-350 pickup that struck the van in which Duncan was riding was not hurt, according to police.

Investigators said Guajardo was driving southbound on Route 79 when he lost control of the van, went off the road and hit an embankment.

The van then rolled over and landed on its wheels, coming to rest in the left northbound lane, where it was hit by the oncoming pickup truck, police said.

Police said van’s lights were damaged during the rollover and may have contributed to the second wreck.

State police said the incident remains under investigation.
