New Castle Police said an ounce of crack cocaine and nearly $7,800 in cash was found in a Union Township hotel room after an 18-year-old from Detroit was stopped driving the wrong way on a one-way street on Monday, Aug. 17, 2020.

A traffic stop for a driver going the wrong way on a one-way street in New Castle lead to the seizure of 28 grams of crack cocaine and nearly $7,800 in cash.

According to New Castle Police, a patrol officer made the traffic stop on Grant Street in front of the city building on Monday. The 18-year-old driver, who had no identification, said he was from Detroit.

During the investigation, police said the officer developed probable cause to believe that the driver was involved in distributing narcotics.

A search warrant was executed on the driver’s hotel room at the Holiday Inn Express in Union Township. Police said they found the crack cocaine and $6,266 in cash in the room; the driver allegedly had $1,489 on him.

Police eventually identified the driver as Antoine Deshawn Lockett. Union Township Police charged him with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

According to court records, Lockett was arraigned and sent to the Lawrence County Prison on $25,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 26 before District Judge David Blair Rishel.
