Pittsburgh area set to start another run of hot, humid weather

After a four-day break, the Pittsburgh area is set to enter another stretch of days with 90-degree temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

And it’s going to get muggy, too, with dew points rising to oppressive levels in the lower 70s, meteorologist Bill Modzelewski said.

While the high Wednesday is forecast to get into the lower 90s, humidity won’t be an issue until Thursday, he said. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Thursday afternoon into the evening, with a chance for severe weather that could include damaging wind, large hail and isolated tornadoes.

Friday’s high is expected to be just shy of 90, but it will continue to be warm and humid.

Highs in the lower 90s are expected for over the weekend and through the first half of next week, Modzelewski said. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also in the forecast, which, if they develop in the early afternoon, could knock a couple of degrees off the high temperatures.

“It’s going to be hot either way, whether it’s just shy of 90 or 90 or 91,” he said.

Dew points are expected to be in the upper 60s to lower 70s from Thursday through Wednesday.

“It’s going to be pretty noticeable,” Modzelewski said.

The Pittsburgh area just saw eight straight days of high temperatures of 90 or above, from July 3 through July 10. That tied a record for the number of consecutive days being that warm, which was set from Aug. 12-20, 1995.
