The latest data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health shows that, of Pennsylvania residents who have received covid-19 shots, more are fully inoculated than those who have received partial doses.
Meanwhile, cases, hospitalizations and deaths haven’t seen significant fluctuations one way or the other, but remain on a downward trend.
Pennsylvania
The state Saturday added 2,840 new covid cases, after the single-day high of the month (3,074) was posted Friday. The seven-day average is 2,473 new cases, a number that has been trending lower since the start of the year.
The Keystone State has now seen a total of 964,296 cases since the virus first appeared in Pennsylvania one year ago.
Philadelphia recorded 365 new cases Saturday, while Allegheny and Westmoreland counties posted 329 and 76 cases, respectively.
Rounding out the Western Pennsylvania counties, the cases are Butler (64), Washington (51), Fayette (29), Beaver (26), Lawrence (21), Somerset (16), Indiana (13), Armstrong (7) and Green (6).
The state also reported 43 new deaths.
The total number of covid-19 deaths in Pennsylvania is 24,573 — 256 more fatalities than last week (24,317).
Two weeks ago, deaths increased by 317. Three weeks ago, it was an increase of nearly 430. Four weeks ago, it was 500, while the change five weeks ago was more than triple that, at 1,600.
Pennsylvania has 1,442 people hospitalized for covid-19, down 71 from this time last week and representing the fewest since early November. Two weeks ago, the change was 272. Three weeks ago, it was 275 fewer, and four weeks ago saw 487 fewer than its previous week.
Statewide hospitalizations have been trending downward since peaking at more than 6,300 in December.
Currently, there are 307 covid patients in intensive care units (down by 18 from last week), 177 of whom on ventilators (up by six).
State officials said Saturday that 3.5 million doses of covid-19 vaccines have been administered across Pennsylvania, which is a total that’s more than 44 other states.
The numbers show that there are 1,161,609 people with only their first covid shot, while 1,200,195 state residents have both shots. To date, 19 % of Pennsylvanians (2,361,804) have at least one covid dose, while 9% are fully covered.
Teachers and child care workers across the state are being offered the Johnson & Johnson covid vaccine in a program that started in Intermediate Units this week. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the jump in fully vaccinated residents was a result of the J&J one-shot vaccine.
Also, state officials reiterated that vaccination numbers for the state include neither Philadelphia, which is its own jurisdiction, nor federal facilities, which are directly working with the federal government.
However, according to the Philadelphia Department of Health, 321,000 residents have had at least one dose, while 131,086 are fully vaccinated.
Allegheny County
Allegheny County on Friday reported 329 additional cases for a seven-day average of 243 cases, roughly where it has been since early February.

One of the positive cases are more than a week old. The dates of the tests were March 5 to Friday. The ages of the patients ranged from five months to 97 years old. The median age was 37.
