Pa. casino revenue dips in May, but sports betting up at Live! Casino Pittsburgh

Revenue at Pennsylvania casinos continued a gradual decline in May, a trend seen across the state since the record-breaking month of March.

In all, more than $447.7 million in revenue was generated in May, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. That’s a $13.8 million decrease from April, when revenue reached $461.6 million. It’s also significantly less than March, when revenue totaled $462.7 million, the highest monthly sum to date.

Despite that decrease, May’s numbers were 8% higher than the same period last year, when revenue totaled $413.1 million.

Legal gambling and fantasy contests last month generated $181.6 million in tax revenue for Pennsylvania.

Of the state’s 16 licensed casinos, Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Dauphin County saw the highest revenue in May, bringing in more than $62.8 million.

Locally, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh saw revenue reach $31.5 million. Of that, slot machines brought in $22.1 million, with more than $7.5 million generated from table games.

Sports betting at the North Shore casino brought in $1.7 million, which was $1.1 million more than April, when it generated $585,024. In all, the casino saw $23.8 million wagered through retail and online sportsbooks.

At Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Washington County, revenue totaled $23.5 million.

The facility brought in $13.5 million from slot machines and $2.9 million from table games. It saw $7 million from sports betting. That’s more than double the $3.4 million generated in April. In all, $111.5 million was wagered at the facility in May, officials said.

Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin in Fayette County generated more than $2 million, $1.9 million of which came from slot machines and $137,376 from table games.

Live! Casino Pittsburgh at Westmoreland Mall saw revenue of $9.5 million. Of that, $8.1 million came from slot machines, $1.3 million from table games and $101,751 from retail sports wagering. That’s a $14,146 increase from April, when sports betting generated $87,605.

The Hempfield facility saw $992,163 generated on sports bets in May.

In casinos across the state in May, retail slot machine revenue totaled $205.6 million, and retail table games generated $88.5 million. In addition, $78.2 million was generated from online slot machines, $32.2 million from online table games and $2.8 million from online poker.

Video gaming terminals generated $3.6 million, and fantasy contests brought in $1.5 million, data show.

Retail and online sports wagering brought in $35 million.
