Police are investigating after a Uniontown man was found dead in his home Thursday morning with his dog biting his neck, Tribune-Review news partner WPXI reported.

The news station identified the man as 52-year-old Homer Utterback, who investigators say suffered from seizures. Officials believe Utterback had an episode and fell out of bed when his dog, Petey, attacked.

Utterback was dead by the time officials arrived.

Utterback’s girlfriend, who was home during the incident, told the station that the dog was their pet for almost a decade.

The dog was taken to a local kennel where it will be put down, officials said, adding that they did not know what triggered the dog to start attacking its owner, according to WPXI.
