Four nonprofit foundations that serve the Laurel Highlands and Somerset and Cambria counties will collaborate to provide rapid response to the impact of the covid-19 virus among the region’s most vulnerable residents, officials said Wednesday.

The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies (CFA), United Way of the Laurel Highlands, Lee Initiatives, and 1889 Foundation are evaluating the continuing and evolving impacts of the virus. Together, they are identifying where the organizations can invest philanthropic resources to best meet community needs.

The coalition will focus on supporting local front-line human services, health care, and economic relief, spokeswoman Kecia Bal said.

Mike Kane, president of the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies said it will establish a local fund to support relief efforts, with details on where to contribute, to be finalized in the next few days.

“We have proven before that we are a resilient community, and we will get through this together,” Kane added
