Fire breaks out at vacant restaurants in Wilkins
An old Hooters restaurant in Wilkins went up in flames Thursday morning.
First responders say they were dispatched to the scene at 3:45 a.m. on the 3500 block of William Penn Highway. The property sits between the Home Depot and AutoZone.
There were no injuries, according to Ryan Flaherty, Wilkins emergency management coordinator.
Crews have since reopened the road, but authorities urge caution from drivers as police and fire personnel remain on scene.
Allegheny County detectives are assisting the Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s office to determine the cause of the fire, according to county police.
Weekend closures set for 2 Pittsburgh arteries
Some motorists headed to downtown Pittsburgh will have to consider alternate routes this weekend.
The Smithfield Street Bridge will close to traffic in both directions between Fort Pitt Boulevard and Carson Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday. Crews will conduct surface work on the span as part of a $8.5 million bridge preservation project.
The northbound Boulevard of the Allies will shut down from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, also for surface work. Two bridges along the route as well as several ramps are being repaired as part of a $35.4 million preservation project.
