Teenage girl shot in Hill District

A 16-year old female was shot in the foot Monday night in the Hill District, Pittsburgh police said.

Police responded to a two-round ShotSpotter alert in the 300 block of Elmore Street around 9 p.m., officials said. Officers arriving at the scene found the victim and transported her to the hospital.

Police said she is in stable condition.

The investigation is in its preliminary stages, police said.

Pittsburgh police responded to the area of Montclair Street and Greenfield Avenue just after 4 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports that a man had been shot in the leg.

The patient was alert and talking to officers, police said. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

1 hospitalized after fire in Dravosburg

At least one person was hospitalized after being injured in a fire late Monday in Dravosburg.

The fire broke out along Scott Drive around 11:50 p.m., and at least one person was taken to a local hospital, according to Trib news partner WPXI.

Car crashes into Washington County Dairy Queen

A car crashed into a Washington County Dairy Queen around 4 p.m. Monday, Trib news partner WPXI reported.

WPXI said cakemaker Joyce Caldwell was inside the stock room of the East Wylie Avenue ice cream shop when the SUV slammed through the stock room’s brick wall.

First responders helped the woman driving the SUV out of the car. She had only minor injuries and did not want to go to the hospital.

Supervisor Autumn Herbstomer told WPXI the 84-year-old driver mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake.

None of the Dairy Queen workers were injured. WPXI reported that the damages would be covered by the woman’s insurance, and the shop should reopen within a couple of days.

Work wrapping up on Bridgeville’s Washington Pike Bridge

Bridgeville police said work is nearly completed on the Washington Pike Bridge over Chartiers Creek in Bridgeville and South Fayette Township.

The span initially closed in April and has seen periodic closures since as PennDOT demolished and replaced half of the bridge.

The $10.8 million project widened the structure to seven lanes.

“Be prepared for new traffic patterns, signage and traffic signals,” Bridgeville police wrote in a social media post.

There are now two dedicated lanes going into Bridgeville.

Ramp from Forbes Avenue to Birmingham Bridge to close

PennDOT on Monday announced a 14-day closure of the ramp from Forbes Avenue to the Birmingham Bridge, beginning Wednesday.

Traffic will be detoured as crews paint the span. The detour has drivers continue eastbound on Forbes Avenue past the closed ramp, turn left onto Craft Avenue, turn left onto Fifth Avenue and follow Fifth Avenue back to the Birmingham Bridge.

The work is part of a larger $35.4 million project that aims to preserve two bridges and several ramps along Route 885/Boulevard of the Allies, according to PennDOT.

Active-shooter police training set at former Canon McMillan Middle School

Police training for active-shooter and terrorism incidents will be held at the former Canon-McMillan Middle School in Canonsburg.

The training will occur every Wednesday and Friday, beginning Wednesday and continuing through June 25, Canonsburg Police Department said in a social media post.

There will be 20 to 25 officers at the site each day, and neighbors may hear facsimile gun shots, police said.

“We want to thank the school district for graciously allowing us to use the old middle school for training,” Canonsburg Police Department said. “A training site like this is invaluable.”
