Shots fired in Ross Target parking lot

Police are investigating after multiple shots were fired Tuesday night outside a Target store in Ross.

The incident happened just after 10:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the store off McKnight Road.

All involved knew each other, and Ross police said it involved “past romantic relationships,” Tribune-Review news partner WTAE-TV reported.

The station said multiple shots were fired, but no injuries were reported. Police recovered shell casings from a small area of the lot.

Deputy Chief Brian Kohlhepp told WTAE that they spoke with the victim and other witnesses who identified a possible shooter.

Washington County coroner to reveal inquest findings

The findings of an inquest into the death of a Coraopolis man shot by police in Washington County will be released Thursday, county Coroner S. Timothy Warco said.

Eduardo L. Hoover Jr., 38, was shot following a chase on April 2 that started in Mt. Pleasant Township, continued on Route 18 toward Washington and ended in the 1000 block of Jefferson Avenue in Washington.

Warco said he will deliver the findings of the inquest when it reconvenes at 10 a.m. in the public meeting room on the ground floor of the Washington County Crossroads Center, 95 W. Beau St. in Washington.

The coroner investigates the death of any person whose death arises from the involvement of police or other law enforcement authorities. Warco said he has to identify the person or persons responsible for Hoover’s death, whether there is criminal liability, and whether the person who caused Hoover’s death was justified in using lethal force.

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh has previously said that two Smith Township police officers involved in the shooting were justified in their actions.

Hoover was shot while accelerating his vehicle toward police, investigators said. Walsh said the officers and the community were in danger at the time the shots were fired.
