3 injured in Washington County house fire
Three people, including a firefighter, were injured in a fire that destroyed a Washington County house early Thursday morning.
The fire broke out around 12:20 a.m. at a house along North Main Street in Midway, TribLive news partner WTAE reported.
Midway fire Chief Doug Baird told the station that the house was severely hoarded.
A man and a woman were flown to a hospital. He has already been released, and the woman is expected to be fine. A firefighter suffered a shoulder injury.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Man shot in Connellsville
A man was shot in the chest and back on Wednesday night in Fayette County.
The shooting in the area of West Crawford Avenue in Connellsville was reported shortly after 9:15 p.m., TribLive news partner WTAE reported.
The man was taken to a hospital. No information on his condition was available.
Child found in ‘deplorable conditions’ in Somerset County
A child was found living in deplorable conditions when Pennsylvania State Police responded Tuesday to a domestic assault involving shots fired on Lincoln Highway in Shade Township, Somerset County, state police said.
Melissa Monaghan, 40, and Allen J. Hitechew II, 39, were each taken into custody.
Monaghan faces two felony counts of endangering the welfare of children, a felony charge of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of simple assault and terroristic threats.
Hitechew is charged with a felony county of endangering the welfare of children, according to court records.
Monaghan and Hitechew were each arraigned Wednesday and being held in the Somerset County jail on $10,000 bail. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for June 3.
Veterans Bridge traffic restrictions
Traffic will be restricted Thursday morning on the Veterans Bridge in Pittsburgh, PennDOT announced.
The single-lane restriction will occur in the southbound direction on the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railway, Penn Avenue, Smallman Street, and Liberty Avenue on the southern end of the structure. Work will occur from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crews from The Markosky Engineering Group and Pittsburgh Rigging Co. will be conducting inspections.
State police identify driver who crashed through Butler County business roof
Pennsylvania State Police have identified the driver who crashed his pickup through the roof of a jewelry store Monday night in Butler County.
The driver was identified as Phillip B. Mennor II, 41, of Butler.
According to state police, Mennor was traveling south on Sunset Drive when he went off the road, first hitting a mailbox before going back across Sunset Drive and becoming airborne.
The pickup hit the roof of a shed at 1617 N. Main St. Ext. before crashing into the roof of Golden Dreams Jewelers next door.
Firefighters freed Mennor from his pickup, and he was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. The severity of his injuries was unknown, state police said.
State police said Mennor “showed signs of alcohol impairment on scene that rendered him incapable of operating a motor vehicle.”
No charged were found filed against Mennor in court records as of Thursday.
