Woman shot near PPG Paints Arena
A woman was in critical condition early Thursday morning after being shot in the chest near PPG Paints Arena in Uptown Pittsburgh, police said.
The shooting outside 1605 Fifth Ave. in the city’s Crawford-Roberts neighborhood, a few blocks from PPG Paints, was reported just before 5:45 a.m.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was taken into surgery, police said.
Police are investigating, including reviewing all available video footage from the area.
No injuries in Braddock house fire
No injuries were immediately reported at a house fire in Braddock, according to an Allegheny County 911 dispatcher.
The fire in the 200 block of Camp Avenue was reported shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday, the dispatcher said. It was declared under control shortly before 5 a.m.
Tribune-Review news partner WTAE reports the house was abandoned.
The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating.
Warm, dry weather coming to an end
The Pittsburgh region has two more days of dry, warm weather to enjoy before the script gets flipped.
Temperatures running 10 to 15 degrees above normal will continue Thursday and Friday, with the high expected to be around 75 degrees, National Weather Service meteorologist David Shallenberger said. The normal high for Thursday is forecast to be 60.
It’s likely to be the last 70-degree highs the area will see until next year, with temperatures next week likely to be 1o to 15 degrees below normal, with highs in the high 40s to low 50s in the forecast.
“We’ve basically done a complete reversal,” Shallenberger said.
There will be a rainy weekend ahead of the cooldown. Shallenberger said widespread rain will arrive Friday night. A break in the rain is expected between about 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, when the high will be 68, before a second shot of rain comes in Sunday and Monday.
Shallenberger said the coming weather system will bring gusty conditions, enough to knock leaves off the trees, but nothing concerning.
Between a quarter and a half inch of rain is expected, he said.
Woman hit by fleeing vehicle in Parks
A woman suffered minor injuries on Oct. 21 after she was hit by an SUV in Parks Township, state police said.
In a release issued Thursday, state police said the incident happened around 5:20 p.m. on Lincoln Street.
The report said an argument took place between the woman, 58, of Vandergrift and the occupants of the vehicle. When it left, the vehicle struck the woman, then traveled north on Dime Road.
The woman refused medical services.
The vehicle was described as a small tan or gold SUV occupied by three unidentified white males in their late teens or early 20s, state police said.
