Driver injured in Whitehall crash
A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Route 51 in Pittsburgh’s South Hills neighborhood.
First responders, including six firefighters, were dispatched to the scene at 4:04 p.m., according to Whitehall Fire Company, Station 301. They tended to the crash for about 45 minutes.
One driver, who authorities did not name, was taken to a local hospital, the fire company said, with “non-life-threatening injuries.”
Police report latest Downtown patrol arrests
Pittsburgh police said officers in the bureau’s Downtown Public Safety Center made 18 arrests and issued 34 non-traffic citations last week as part of its Downtown High-Visibility Patrol.
From July 22 through Sunday, the officers also issued 19 parking citations, met with seven businesses or business owners, and called for one vehicle to be towed, police spokeswoman Cara Cruz said.
The bureau’s Violence Prevention and Narcotics units made three arrests and issued two non-traffic citations Downtown during the same period, Cruz said. The Traffic and K9 units issued 49 parking citations.
Road closure set for Route 551 in Beaver County
PennDOT on Monday morning plans to close part of Route 551 in Beaver County for roadwork that will last through mid-August, the agency said.
Pipe installation work will begin this week, weather permitting in various Beaver County towns along Route 551, also known as Wallace Run Road, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said.
The roadway will be closed around-the-clock between Route 168 and McKinley Road, Cowan said. Detours will be posted.
The work is part of a $5.36 million group paving project that includes milling and paving, drainage upgrades, shoulder repairs, guide rail updates, pavement markings, and other various construction related activities, Cowan said.
