Divers with the Murrysville Medic One Dive Team helped to recover a car located by two fishermen on their fish finder Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, in the Monongahela River near the Point Marion boat launch. State police found the car had been reported stolen in 2008.

Two men fishing in the Monongahela River on Sunday found a car that had been reported stolen 15 years ago.

The men were fishing near the Point Marion boat launch in Fayette County when they noticed the outline of a vehicle on their fish finder, state police said.

On Tuesday, divers from the Murrysville Medic One Dive Team located the vehicle, described as a white four-door sedan, which was recovered from the river.

The car was found 103 feet from shore in 13 feet of water, said Darrick Gerano, director of Murrysville Medic One.

The car was intact but unidentifiable, he said.

Using the vehicle identification number, state police found it had been reported stolen to state police in Uniontown in 2008.

There were no signs of foul play, state police said.

State police in Uniontown are continuing to investigate.
