Gas prices rise in Pittsburgh region
Gas prices are up in the Pittsburgh region, and the national average has risen for a third straight week on higher oil prices blamed on geopolitical tensions, declining oil inventories and Hurricane Barry.
“With Barry in the rearview, we are unlikely to see major disruptions arise, and gas prices nationally will avoid seeing much of a price rise as a result,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for the gas price-tracking website GasBuddy.com.
In the Pittsburgh region, gas prices have risen 2.7 cents per gallon in the past week to an average of $2.98 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. That’s 10.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, but 13 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
Prices in the Pittsburgh region ranged from a low of $2.79 per gallon up to $3.29. Statewide, per-gallon prices ranged from $2.73 to $3.95.
The national average price of gasoline is up 3.3 cents per gallon in the past week to an average of $2.79. That’s 11.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, but 8.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
Nationwide, per-gallon gas prices ranged from $2.01 to $5.49.
