The national average price of gasoline has fallen for 34 straight days, and — barring major hurricanes, outages or unexpected disruptions — could fall under $4 by mid-August, an industry analyst says.
“We’ve seen the national average price of gasoline decline for a fifth straight week, with the pace of recent declines accelerating to some of the most significant we’ve seen in years,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “This trend is likely to reach a sixth straight week, with prices likely to fall again this week.”
A decrease in demand alongside declining oil prices helped push pump prices down, AAA reported.
According to AAA, the national average on Monday was $4.52 per gallon. That’s down by about 47 cents per gallon, or 9.4%, from a month ago and about 50 cents, or nearly 10%, less than the record high of $5.02 reached June 14.
The average price in Pennsylvania is about $4.68 per gallon, AAA reported Monday. That’s 36 cents per gallon, or 7.2%, less than a month ago. The state’s highest recorded average price was $5.07 on June 12.
Prices ranged from a low of $4.46 in Carbon County in eastern Pennsylvania to $4.80 in Clarion County, according to AAA.
