A Johnstown man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after the truck he was driving rolled in a two-vehicle crash on Route 422 in Butler County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to state police, Ryan S. Kimmel, 37, was driving a Freightliner east on Route 422 between the Jefferson Street and Mitchell Hill exits in Summit Township when he tried to pass a Volkswagen GTI driven by Gregory M. Ostwinch, 47, of Butler.

Police said Kimmel’s truck hit Ostwinch’s car.

Ostwinch’s car hit the cement barrier; he was not hurt, police said.

Kimmel’s truck went off the side of the road, hit a guide rail and cement barrier and continued into an embankment. It went over a hillside and rolled onto its roof on the highway.

Kimmel was taken by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital.

No information on the extent of his injuries was released.
