People seeking a covid-19 vaccination can get one Wednesday through a Giant Eagle-sponsored clinic at Heinz Field.

Dick Roberts, spokesman for the O’Hara-based company, said appointments remain available at the event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Giant Eagle partnered with Pittsburgh Public Schools for the clinic, with a specific goal of offering vaccinations to students, staff and the district community, though it is also open to the public.

“All covid-19 vaccines currently available in the United States have been shown to be safe and effective at preventing (the virus),” Roberts said. “By partnering with Pittsburgh Public Schools to administer the vaccine to school students, teachers and the general public, everyone may be able to start doing some things that they stopped doing because of the pandemic.”

Technicians at the Heinz Field clinic will be doling out the Pfizer two-dose vaccine. Anyone age 16 or older is eligible.

Appointments are required and can be made at gianteagle.com/covidvaccine.

Second-dose appointments will be made before people leave the stadium.

Anyone who secures an appointment should bring an immunization record, proof of age and an insurance card, if available. Teachers should bring their state license or school-issued ID.

Everyone must wear a mask.

Participants can park for free at the Heinz Field Gold Lot 1 and enter through Gate A.

According to the PPS 14-day rolling covid-19 dashboard, there have been 21 reported cases of covid-19 in the district in the past two weeks.

A previous Giant Eagle mass clinic in March saw more than 1,500 PPS teachers and staff receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
