Cops seek public's help with search for New Castle murder suspect

Police in New Castle are searching for a suspect charged with shooting one man to death and wounding another on Thursday.

Officers in the Lawrence County city responding to a report of shots fired on April 11 in the 500 block of East Winter Avenue learned that shortly after the calls to 911, two men were admitted to UPMC Jameson with gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, Michael Riser, 35, of Michigan died. The second man, whose name was not released, was treated for a gunshot wound to the upper leg.

Police charged Anthony Thurman, 27, with criminal homicide, attempted homicide and illegal possession of a firearm.

Anyone with information that can help lead authorities to Thurman is asked to call the New Castle City Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Unit at 724-656-3538.
