Two Catholic parishes in the Cranberry area of southern Butler County are being merged into one parish as of July 1, the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh announced.
Saint Mark the Evangelist Parish in the Adams, Cranberry and Glade Mills communities is being formed from the merger of Holy Sepulcher in Glade Mills and Saint Kilian in Adams and Cranberry, Bishop David Zubik said.
The merger is part of an ongoing effort designed to help parishes mobilize their resources to prioritize mission over maintenance, Zubik said in a statement.
Zubik consulted with the diocesan Priest Council and vicars general before approving the request from the Rev. Charles Bober, who will be the pastor of the new church. Bober requested the merger after extensive consultation with parishioners, the diocese said.
With the merger of the parishes, the diocese now has 61 churches.
