The gas pumps at the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s westbound North Midway Service Plaza in Bedford County will close on Monday.

The pumps will be unavailable for about eight weeks while the fuel provider, 7-Eleven, replaces the underground fuel tanks, lines and dispensers, spokesperson Crispin Havener said in a statement.

While there are no issues with the tanks, lines and dispensers, it is recommended that fuel tanks are replaced every 30 years, Havener said. The dispensers are replaced about every 12 years.

Replacing dispensers does not typically require a long-term shutdown like the replacement of a tank, Havener said, but 7-Eleven opted to do both projects at the same time.

Westbound motorists can plan to fuel up at the North Somerset Service Plaza, which is about 35 miles west of the North Midway plaza.

Visitors to the North Midway plaza can still use the restrooms, convenience store and food options.
