Beaver County officials confirmed Monday night that a resident has been diagnosed with covid-19, and the person is believed to be a member of the Aliquippa School District community, Superintendent Peter Carbone said.

In an alert posted on the school district website, Carbone said he has “reliable information” that the person affected by coronavirus is a member of the school community.

He did not say in what capacity.

The information was not confirmed by Beaver officials. Emails seeking comment from county Commissioner Daniel C. Camp III were not immediately returned.

“Due to confidentiality consideration, I am not able to share any other details,” Carbone wrote.

The state Department of Health will follow protocol to inform the public and the people that may have come in contact with the person, he said.

Carbone said he will keep the community informed with up to date information as it becomes available.

He encouraged people to continue social distancing to stem the spread of the virus.

“The Aliquippa community is strong,” Carbone wrote.

During a press conference Monday night, Camp said county officials were notified by the state at about 7 p.m. of the coronavirus case.

Commissioners declared a disaster emergency in Beaver, with Camp urging residents to follow CDC’s and the state Department of Health’s recommendations as they pertain to attempting to slow the spread of this virus.

The announcement brings the total number of cases confirmed by the state to at least 77.
