Three people were taken to hospitals and 45 were displaced after a fire early Friday at an apartment building in Greene County.

The fire at Parkview Knoll Apartments, off of Ceylon Road in Cumberland Township south of Carmichaels, was reported around 2:30 a.m. It was brought under control around 4 a.m., and the cause was under investigation.

A 12-year-old boy firefighters rescued from a stairwell was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh with smoke inhalation, the Trib’s news partner, WPXI-TV, reported.

A second person had smoke inhalation, while a woman hurt an ankle after jumping from a window, the station reported.

Two of the building’s 23 apartments were destroyed, with the others sustaining smoke damage. The fire melted the building’s siding.

The American Red Cross was helping residents.
