An 11-year-old boy was killed early Tuesday in a mobile home fire near the village of Normalville in Fayette County.

An 11-year-old boy was killed early Tuesday in Fayette County when a fire destroyed a mobile home near the village of Normalville, a fire official said.

The boy was found inside the mobile home along Hawkins Hollow Road in Springfield Township, said Normalville Fire Chief Mark Bigam. He said an adult in the residence was able to escape the burning mobile home.

Neither the state police at Uniontown nor Fayette County Coroner Dr. Phillip Reilly would identify the victim Tuesday morning. Three dogs also were killed in the fire, police said.

The mobile home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived after the fire was reported about 5:25 a.m., Bigam said. It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control, and firefighters remained on the scene for about five hours, Bigam said.

The biggest problem in fighting the fire was that the mobile home was on a hillside above the road, and the driveway to the home was very icy, Bigam said.

A state police fire marshal unit is conducting an investigation into the cause of the blaze, Trooper Kalee Barnhart said.

Normalville firefighters were assisted at the scene by fire departments from Bullskin, Connellsville, Springfield and Saltlick townships and Ohiopyle, Bigam said.
