1 killed, 3 hurt in head-on crash on I-79 in Butler County
One person was killed and three others were injured Wednesday in a head-on crash on Interstate 79 in Butler County, state police said.
The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. on the highway in Muddy Creek Township.
State police said James E. Dapper, 58, of Zelienople, was driving a pickup south when he left the southbound lane, crossed the center median, entered the northbound lanes and hit head-on an SUV driven by Harry J. Hibbard, 58, of Greenville.
Hibbard was killed, state police said. Dapper suffered suspected serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital on Pittsburgh’s North Side.
A passenger in Dapper’s vehicle, Damian L. Altman, 25, of Beaver Falls, was taken by ambulance to UPMC Jameson in New Castle, state police said.
Dapper and Hibbard’s vehicles hit a third, unidentified vehicle driven by Yucheng Weng, 43, of Brooklyn. He suffered a minor injury, and his vehicle was disabled, state police said.
