One person is dead following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 70 in Washington County on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024.

A man who died in a wrong-way crash late Tuesday on Interstate 70 in Washington County has been identified.

Chace Johnson, 25, died shortly before midnight on the interstate in Fallowfield Township, according to the Washington County Coroner’s Office.

According to the coroner, he was alone in a vehicle and was seen traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-70.

The vehicle he was driving hit a tractor-trailer and came to rest in the median near Exit 39, according to the coroner’s report.

It was unknown if the driver was wearing a seat belt, the coroner said.

State police were investigating.

Another person was taken to a hospital, TribLive news partner WTAE reported.

A truck driver’s dash camera captured a video of the vehicle heading the wrong way in the left lane past tractor-trailers before the crash.

The westbound lanes between Exits 40 and 39 had reopened as of about 6 a.m. after having been closed since the crash.
