Police have arrested a Port Vue man in the fatal shooting of a North Braddock resident and are working to identify other people involved in the Nov. 7 incident.

Allegheny County Police have charged Duwan Carey, 18, with criminal homicide, burglary and conspiracy. He was apprehended Thursday morning with the help of county sheriff and was placed in the county jail to await arraignment.

Police said the victim, Theodore Jones, 52, was shot outside of his home when he interrupted a burglary at the residence in the 1500 block of Beech Street in North Braddock. Jones was killed in front of his 6-year-old son, police said.

Allegheny County and North Braddock police responded to the shooting shortly after 3 p.m.

Jones was taken to UPMC Mercy hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Detectives asked that anyone with information about the shooting call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-255-8477. Callers may remain anonymous.

According to online court documents, Carey also had been charged with receiving stolen property on Oct. 20 in Castle Shannon.
