Allegheny County Police said a Pittsburgh man who stabbed his girlfriend at least five times following an argument in Carnegie late Friday night was taken into custody Tuesday morning.

Joshua Michael Meyer, 41, of Pittsburgh’s Elliott neighborhood went to his partner’s Carnegie residence and got into a verbal argument with her around midnight Friday, according to a criminal complaint in the case.

Carnegie police arrived at the home in the 400 block of 3rd Avenue at 11:58 p.m. and found the female victim, who they did not name, lying in a second-floor bedroom with multiple stab wounds, the complaint said. There were least two pools of blood, as well as bloody clothing, on the carpeted floor.

Scott Township EMS took the victim to UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition, the complaint said.

The victim told police that Meyer brought a knife to the house and stabbed her “multiple times,” the complaint said. She said Meyer and her “are and have been intimate partners.”

The complaint said the woman suffered at least five wounds, all found on the left side — ear, neck, armpit, lower chest and flank. The victim also had a black eye, which she suffered when Meyer had punched her a week earlier.

A witness, who police also did not name, was in another bedroom in the home when they heard kids “start loudly screaming,” the complaint said. It is unclear whether the children saw the attack. The witness said they saw Meyer, who is a coworker, run from the bedroom and out of the home.

Police charged Meyer with attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, tampering with evidence, and possessing instruments of crime, court records show.

Meyer was arrested Tuesday but court records did not reflect whether he had been arraigned. No preliminary hearing had been scheduled and no attorney was listed. Anyone with additional information about Meyer is urged to call the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-255-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
