Bear spotted around Forward Township home
A bear was spotted roaming around a Forward Township home Wednesday, according to a Facebook post from township police.
The bear, caught on a resident’s Ring Video Doorbell camera, can be seen climbing over a wall at the Guffey Road home, sniffing a trash can and then walking away.
“This time of year we have bear sightings,” police wrote on their Facebook page. “Simple advice: don’t approach the bear and call 911 so officers are aware.”
So far this year, several bears have been spotted around Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Pittsburgh police in April reported two bear sightings, both a week apart, in several city neighborhoods, including Lincoln-Lemington, Overbrook, Mt. Washington and South Side Slopes.
The sightings, as well as a massive snake reported in Frick Park last month, prompted city officials to set up an email address — animal.law@pittsburghpa.gov — specifically to take animal and wildlife questions and concerns from residents and officers.
Parts of Allegheny County have also reported bear sightings this year, including in Robinson where police said a bear was found near Country Club Drive.
