Police: 1 person dead after U-Haul crashes into Shaler home

One person died after a U-Haul truck crashed into a Shaler home Monday afternoon, according to a Facebook post put up by the Shaler Police Department.

Crews responded to the intersection of Reese and Grant avenues around 1:30 p.m. in response to a vehicle crash into a structure.

At the time of the incident, Shaler police said the driver of the U-Haul was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The Facebook post was updated by Monday evening after police were contacted by the Allegheny County Medical Examiners office who informed officers the driver died.

The driver was not immediately identified.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends,” Shaler police wrote on their Facebook page.

Tribune-Review news partners WPXI-TV said a passenger in the truck was also taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

It was not immediately clear what led to the crash. Police are investigating the incident.
