Serving bottled water at Oblock Junior High School in Plum is no longer necessary. The school district notified families on Monday that water restrictions at the school have been lifted after tests for Legionella came back negative.

Community members and parents in the district were notified through a school district email Sept. 3 that “elevated levels of Legionella” were present in the water at Oblock. Upon guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD), the district at that point turned off drinking water in the building and began boiling water that was used for food preparation. Bottled water was made available to students and staff.

Monday’s email notification that announced the end of the restrictions stated that a “more detailed lab report was shared with the District on Friday, Septe. 12, 2020, that indicated all samples came back negative for Legionella.”

The school district, as recommended by the ACHD, flushed the entire water system at Oblock and all other schools in the district as an added measure of precaution. Also, upon recommendation from the ACHD, the district will have the water tested every six months.
