Riverview alum interning for Connect Wolf

A Riverview High School graduate is participating in a Point Park University internship that has him working with a team on a tech start-up “connection company” founded by a professor there.

Joshua Jackson, 22, of Springdale joins three other Point Park students as an electrical engineering intern for Connect Wolf, a tech start-up that aims to connect loved ones with wearable technology founded by CEO Jennifer Sydeski Hurd, a part-time professor at Point Park University.

Jackson is on track to graduate from Point Park in 2020 with a degree in electrical engineering. He graduated from Riverview in 2015.

“The internship work that I’ve done at Connect Wolf has been invaluable. Learning about business and electrical engineering from the perspective of a start-up company has given me more knowledge about the industry than I could have gotten anywhere else. Learning about how things are built and brought to a market from the ground up is an extremely exciting and enlightening experience that I am so excited to have been a part of,” Jackson said in a university news release.

Hurd is a scientist, engineer, business professional and entrepreneur. She teaches engineering, science and chemistry classes in the university’s Department of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology.

Connect Wolf, her company, designs technology that keeps track of babies, children and seniors whereabouts, according to the website. The company is also working on a medical device.

Hurd’s background spans across clinical operations, research and innovation, process design, project management and continuous improvement.

Jackson said he wants to use his degree and experience gained through the internship to find a job in renewable energy to combat climate change.
