Plum students wow school board
A distinctive element of Plum Borough School Board’s monthly action meetings is the substantial amount of emphasis on students’ achievements.
The Feb. 28 meeting, for example, opened with a variety of accolades and even a few musical numbers to a packed audience in the high school library.
Showcasing their singing skills, Holiday Park Elementary School students Emma Terebessy and Aidan Kinney performed a song called “Pure Imagination” from their drama club’s production of “Willy Wonka Jr.”
Proving a preview for “Fiddler on the Roof,” the Plum High School musical scheduled for March 30 through April 1, Grace Dopico, Brylee Hendry and Abby Wilson sang “Matchmaker.”
Senior Cody Chill earned recognition for achieving the Eagle rank in Boy Scout Troop 111. His Eagle project was construction of a brick fire pit for outdoor gatherings at Holy Family, and he also volunteers every Tuesday with the Plum Food Pantry.
Enlightening school board members about the high school’s annual Make-A-Wish Telethon were high school students Emily Berrott, Nick Lamia, Zach Miller and Jake Pedley. The December event brought in more than $57,000, continuing the success that took the cumulative two-decade total over the $1 million mark in 2021.
To conclude the student-oriented portion of the meeting, youngsters from two of the elementary schools were presented with Rachel’s Challenge Awards, given for supporting the district’s initiative promoting positivity, respect and kindness:
